What we do

At Community Threads, our mission is to serve the community by providing items of warmth, comfort, and dignity, handcrafted by our volunteers and clothing donated by our neighbors. Since our formation in November 2022, we've grown to over 100 members who contribute to the cause by sewing, knitting, or crocheting handcrafted items. These handcrafted items are provided to local families, shelters, schools, residential facilities, and other organizations, along with clothing donations, at no cost to the recipients. There’s no better feeling than making a difference in the lives of those in our communities. Together we can accomplish great things and touch many lives. Join us in making a difference.

Feedback from the community

For a non-profit of small means, the Community Threads website at https://communitythreadsva.org is a small miracle of quality and utility. I'm a veteran engineer at Google and have been in and around website construction and use since 1999, and can say definitively the invested effort here is admirable. Many information websites are cluttered, overwhelming and disorganized. You are not! The front page is rich in content, but you don't need to scroll through all of it to get what you need. It serves multiple audiences equally: your community, your donors, and interested third parties alike. The item index is pretty basic, as it should be, and navigating it is easy. I especially enjoyed the playful meet-the-board page which protects the identity of its members and still makes it accessible. Font choices, colors, oversized text, these all contribute to high readability especially for those with impaired vision or using small devices. You have vertical and horizontal use of space for organization, and generally it will be easy to find what you are looking for here without a lot of clicking and guessing. Special credit to those involved in creating and maintaining it, congratulations.

Thank you for your generous donation of baby blankets. The new mothers will use the blankets to keep their new babies warm. We appreciate your support in helping Birthright care for both the mothers and their babies.

Thank you for our sensory gifts!

I want to thank you for your service to our community. Our Residents enjoy all the supplies you have given to us. We have formed activities on our calendar around your fidget mats and other sensory items.

Thank you so much! This is fantastic!!!! Usually items don't stay long on the clothesline once they are put out so we greatly appreciate your help!

On behalf of the men and women of the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, we would like to thank you for the wonderful yarn balls you made for us. Our deputies will carry them in their cars and give them out to people who may need a little comfort. We are certain this added touch will mean a great deal to someone in need. Thank you very much for your kindness and generosity. It is greatly appreciated.
